Warehouse Picking Accuracy
The percentage of eligible order lines or units picked correctly against the recorded order.
Business question
How accurately does the warehouse pick the required items and quantities?
Formula
Warehouse picking accuracy = correctly picked eligible order lines or units ÷ total eligible picked order lines or units × 100.
Calculation notes
Choose one primary basis, line or unit, and do not combine them in one result. Define correct item, quantity, lot or location rules, scan validation, approved substitutions, and the point at which a pick is audited.
Edge-case guidance
Separate picker errors from inventory-record errors, customer-approved substitutions, short picks, and corrections made before dispatch. An audited sample is not equivalent to all picks unless coverage is documented.
Required data
| Input | Type | Status | Available source hints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Correctly picked eligible lines or unitsAudited eligible lines or units matching the recorded item and quantity under the chosen basis. | Number | Required | Excel · Google Sheets · Manual records |
| Total eligible picked lines or unitsTotal eligible picked lines or units in the same audit scope and basis. | Number | Required | Excel · Google Sheets · Manual records |
Interpretation
Use the measure to monitor warehouse execution. State whether the primary basis is lines or units, and interpret it with scan coverage, substitutions, packing checks, and downstream returns.
Caution
Line accuracy and unit accuracy answer different questions. High accuracy in a narrow audit or after manual correction may not represent the full warehouse process.
Implementation recommendation
Choose the basis, audit coverage, and error taxonomy with the warehouse owner, then reconcile picks to packing and return records.
Target guidance
Set the first target for warehouse picking accuracy from comparable internal history, then adjust it for assortment, service commitments, seasonality, capacity, and data quality. Review the direction with the accountable owner and consider this trade-off: pursuing speed or a narrow audit score can shift errors downstream and weaken customer service.
