Translation Rework Rate

The percentage of completed eligible translation volume that requires rework under an agreed rework definition.

Business question

What share of completed translation volume requires rework?

Formula

Translation rework rate = eligible translation volume requiring rework ÷ total eligible completed translation volume × 100.

(Eligible translation volume requiring rework / Total eligible completed translation volume) × 100

Calculation notes

Choose source-word or target-word basis and define rework. Separate internal review corrections, client preference changes, accepted scope changes, and changed source files.

Edge-case guidance

Do not count the same words repeatedly unless the policy explicitly measures rework events. Machine-translation post-editing and human translation may need separate scopes.

Interpretation

Use it to identify rework patterns by language pair, workflow stage, source-file change, review finding, and client preference.

Caution

A lower rework rate may reflect under-review, changed source files being excluded, or weak capture. It is not automatically a linguistic quality certification.

Implementation recommendation

Document rework triggers and word basis, then review the rate with quality findings, delivery, and client-change categories.

Target guidance

Set the first target from comparable historical performance for translation rework rate, then adjust it for the service mix, language pair, capacity, seasonality, data quality, and client commitments. Review the direction with the accountable owner; reducing rework must not mean suppressing valid corrections or client feedback.
